Jobs for people in the area, opportunities to be part of value chains, local suppliers to nurture operations and training for professional development, are some of the actions that will be worked on together.
On October 21, 2022, the Zona Franca Grecia, located within Costa Rica Green Valley mixed development project, celebrated the signing of agreements with eight municipalities in the West, with the aim of generating employment opportunities and supporting growth economic and social of the area.
The local governments that proactively joined this initiative are: Grecia, Sarchí, Naranjo, Atenas, Poás, Palmares, Zarcero and San Ramón.
This agreement is a collaboration agreement so that the organizations that establish their operations in the Zona Franca Grecia can recruit people from the cantons of the region. Together, municipalities, companies and the free zone will work to promote jobs for people from the West, opportunities to be part of global value chains, promote productive chains and local suppliers to nurture operations and training of human talent, among other tools of developing.
According to José Antonio Herrero, president of Costa Rica Green Valley, this mixed-use project is a development conceived under a unique, innovative and differentiated model and that through its Zona Franca Grecia provides an ideal space for attracting foreign investment, companies global leaders, with a technological focus, in life sciences and of great innovation.
“We seek to form a group of companies that contribute to the sustainable development of the West, through job opportunities and business chains that privilege local talent in an inclusive manner, with urban development that guarantees the recovery and protection of indigenous natural resources, and that it stays connected with the social needs of the communities that surround the project,” said Herrero.
Development promotes investment in Costa Rica
Zona Franca Grecia is a project developed by Portafolio Inmobiliario, which is located in the first phase of Costa Rica Green Valley. The first stage of the free zone consists of 12 hectares, with a construction area of 95,000 square meters and is projected to house at least five companies. At the moment, there is Nitrile Gloves, a company that will dedicate its operations in this plant to the production of nitrile gloves for surgical use; and which will start operations during the first semester of 2023.
«The arrival of Nitrile Gloves in the country represents a strong boost for the advanced manufacturing and medical device sector that the Zona Franca Grecia will have, with the creation of new jobs and the occupation of 4,000 m2 within the development of the Free Zone,» he explained. This and other companies that will operate in the Zona Franca Grecia will be hiring staff for positions in quality engineering, chemical engineering, mechanics, process engineering, occupational health, maintenance engineering, finance, accounting, sales, human resources, chemical laboratory technicians, in electronics, electromechanics and telecommunications, mechanics, as well as qualified and unqualified operators, among others.
A form was enabled where interested people can enter their data, and another where companies in the area will offer their services.
