Costa Rica Green Valley shined at MD&M West 2024, the largest medical device industry fair in the United States, which was held on February 6-7, 2024. During the event, the free zone had an opportunity to showcase its value proposition to new international investors and to initiate relationships with high-level industry leaders globally.

Amidst over 1600 exhibitors, Costa Rica Green Valley stood out for being the first and only industrial free zone in Costa Rica developed as part of a mixed-use project, extending over 300 hectares (740 acres) that will consist of industrial, corporate, commercial, and residential components.

In 2020, Portafolio Inmobiliario began developing the first phase of Zona Franca Grecia – 12 hectares (30 acres) out of a total of 72 (178 acres) – aimed at attracting manufacturing and logistics companies with technological and innovative approaches that align with a clear vision of sustainability.

Costa Rica is often called the «giant of the Americas«, thanks to the presence of more than 90 multinational companies in the medical device industry; together, they carry out the entire production process, sterilization, and direct shipment to global markets. In this regard, during 2023, exports from the country’s medical device sector reached $7.624 billion – 28% more than in 2022.

For this reason, Costa Rica Green Valley took advantage of the opportunity and introduced itself at MD&M 2024, to companies considering establishing operations in the Western region; there, Costa Rica Green Valley acts as a key ally for success in Costa Rica, hosting global companies in the country’s most strategic sectors, such as advanced technology, manufacturing, and services, among others.

The vision shared by Costa Rica Green Valley and Portafolio Inmobiliario, as the development partner, is to contribute to the Western region’s sustainable development through job opportunities, business linkages, and the protection of natural resources.

«We are proud to share our experience at world-class events like MD&M West 2024. This participation puts us in a privileged position, capturing the attention of future investors and establishing us as leaders in our industry. These types of events are fundamental to strengthening our project’s reputation. We will continue to contribute to the country’s economic growth, thanks to the interest of and commitment from foreign direct investment,» commented Roberto Arguello, Project Director at Portafolio Inmobiliario.

During the fair, we had the opportunity to highlight our privileged location: close to Juan Santamaría International Airport (19 km / 12 mi) and Puerto Caldera (61 km / 38 mi). Additionally, the project enjoys smooth access to the different cantons that comprise the western region, allowing employees to commute with ease.

Furthermore, we emphasized the West’s talented workforce, as it is one of the most active, considering that the total population is 617,361 people and of these, 432,085 belong to the active population group. Regarding English proficiency, 49.9% are at levels A1 – A2 and the remaining 50.1% are at levels B1 – C2. The region’s inhabitants have an excellent quality of life and enjoy a high human development index, meaning the majority have received professional education and are trained in technical fields.

Nitrile Gloves, a company with partners of Mexican origin, has already established itself at Costa Rica Green Valley, with the construction of its 4,000 m2 (43,100 ft2) plant for nitrile gloves manufacturing in Costa Rica.

Similarly, the North American company DDS Lab, one of the largest laboratories to produce dental solutions in the United States, has installed a plant within the project. Among the most stand-out products offered by the company to the country, their Costa Rican plant produces crowns, bridges, dentures, and dental implants.

Costa Rica Green Valley will soon announce its new tenants, who are poised to join the project in 2024.
