DDS Lab, one of the leading full-service dental laboratories in the United States, officially inaugurated its production facility on June 18th at the Grecia Free Trade Zone, Costa Rica Green Valley.

The event featured prominent participation from government entities such as the

Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX), and the Municipality of Grecia, as well as partners, friends, and company collaborators.

This is DDS Lab's first facility in Latin America and the third globally (following Tampa, USA, and Shenzhen, China). The plant covers an area of approximately 10,000 m², and with it, the company aims to double its production capacity.

For the Western region, this type of opening represents a boost to economic reactivation and a promising future for the entire community in terms of job opportunities and improved quality of life.

Costa Rica Green Valley and Portafolio Inmobiliario, as a development partner of the Grecia Free Trade Zone, share a vision to contribute to the sustainable development of the Western region through job opportunities, business linkages, and the protection of natural resources.

During the inauguration event, DDS Lab’s Plant Manager in Costa Rica, Alexander Segura Altamira, expressed their commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and support for staff and neighboring communities, aiming for DDS Lab Costa Rica to become a source of both direct and indirect benefits for Grecia.

DDS Lab began operations with approximately 80 employees, of whom 61% are women and 90% come from the Western region, specifically from the cantons of Grecia, San Ramón, Naranjo, Palmares, Sarchí, and Atenas. Additionally, in 2024, the company will reach 100 jobs and plans to increase to 1,000 jobs in the region over the next five years.

The company uses state-of-the-art technology along with highly automated processes and systems in its fully owned and operated laboratories to offer high-quality products to its clients and the patients they serve. Their product portfolio includes crowns and bridges, dentures and dental implants, night guards, and orthodontic appliances.

The executive director of Portafolio Inmobiliario expressed his pleasure in celebrating the official start of DDS Lab's operations, marking the continued investment of multinational companies in the development of our country. For the remainder of this year, DDS Lab projects to fill 30 additional positions in accounting, occupational safety and environment, administrative roles, maintenance, design, production operators, engineers, and technical quality positions. The workforce in the Western region is substantial, with a total population of 617,361 people, of which 432,085 belong to the active population group. Regarding English proficiency, 49.9% are at levels A1 – A2 and the remaining 50.1% are at levels B1 – C2.

The inhabitants enjoy an excellent quality of life and have a high human development index, indicating that most have received professional education and are trained in technical fields.
